About the Race

The Minnesota Border to Border Triathlon is North America’s premier relay-style TEAM Adventure Triathlon.

The four-day event is a 530 mile team adventure triathlon of biking, running, and canoeing while orienteering and competing in two, three and four person teams. As a TEAM you will:

  • Day One - BikersDay 1 – Bike 220 miles
  • Day 2 – Bike 210 miles
  • Day 3 – Run 50 miles
  • Day 4 – Canoe 50 miles with 10 portages

We start in Luverne, in the Southwest corner of the state, and finish on beautiful Crane Lake, near the Canadian border.

The Minnesota Border to Border Triathlon is perfect for athletes looking for a unique, new challenge. It will try your fitness, orienteering skills, multi-sport abilities and mental toughness as well as introduce you to some great new friends you’ll remember the rest of your life.

Day One - BikersDAY 1 - BIKE

You will be biking 220 miles from Luverne to St. Cloud and riding through some of Minnesota’s most productive farmlands. The ride is mostly flat grade, two lane highways and county roads with a great deal of trucking traffic along the roads.

DAY 2 - BIKE

You will be biking 210 miles from St. Cloud to Virginia and will utilize many county roads. Although there is less traffic, roads are narrower with fewer shoulders to ride on and more turns plus a few more hills and some great scenery.

The suggested daily biking increments are 5-10 miles per rider and taper back to shorter distances as needed based upon weather and rider ability.

Each team member is required to bike a minimum of 25 miles each day.

DAY 3 - RUN

You will be running 50 miles from Virginia to Cook on the back roads of Minnesota and will have the opportunity to see many things, even bears! All asphalt surfaces.

Day One - BikersThe suggested daily increments are to run 1-2 miles per runner and taper back to shorter distances based upon weather and runner ability.

Each team member is required to run a minimum of 5 miles.

DAY 4 - CANOE

You will canoe 50 miles from Timbuktu Landing to Crane Lake. You will meet at the park in Cook at 4:00 a.m. and caravan to the start at Timbuktu Landing on Lake Vermilion. You will paddle across Lake Vermilion to the Vermilion River and the first of 10 portages. The portages are up to 1 mile in length. Portage terrain is approximately 50% hills. Current is normally very slow with the average depth of 4-5 feet.

Each team member is required to paddle a minimum of one leg.
