Day 1– Bike

July 28, 2009

Luverne to St. Cloud

6:00 am

We hope you got a good night's sleep, you'll need it for the 6:00 AM start. FYI, we do start on time. Bike 217 miles from downtown Luverne to St. Cloud. The first bike day you will be riding through some of Minnesota’s most productive farmlands. Mostly flat grade, two lane highways and county roads, you will find wide shoulders for bikers and support vehicles. Lots of trucking traffic along the two lane highway. Scenery includes vast fields of corn, wheat, milo and soybeans. Near Pipestone, enormous power-generating windmills march off to the horizon. Ride past cozy farmyards and enormous agribusinesses. Southwestern Minnesota can be very hot.

On the approach to St. Cloud, farmland gives way to suburbs. St. Cloud is a rapidly growing Minnesota city with active technology, medical and education markets. St. Cloud features all amenities while maintaining their friendly history. Unfortunately, you may be too tired to notice.

4:00 pm

This is the average finish time for Day 1. Remember to race past the first driveway, because that's the finish line, and turn in at the second drive way, you'll be a team hero!

6:30 pm

7:30 pm

The Minnesota Border To Border Triathlon will be your host for the dinner, at the Kelly Inn.

The mandatory racers meeting. (don't miss it!) We will review Day 1, discuss what's ahead for Day 2 and announce any course changes that may be necessary.
